This vintage, made with grapes from our oldest vineyards, is our prime wine. Fermented in vats for several weeks, the wine is then matured in new barrels for twelve months. There is no filtering prior to bottling, so as to preserve this vintage’s full concentration and subtlety.
Origine
We created Terra Ancestra to honour the heritage handed down to us by our predecessors: they planted the vineyards that today give rise to this wine, they handed down to us a rich know-how painstakingly acquired, their heritage is our pride, and we wish to keep it up together with their traditional respect of nature.
Assemblage
A Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre threesome―The richness of Grenache (33 %), the intensity of Syrah (33 %) and the robustness of Mourvèdre (33 %) combine to give this exquisite wine.
Terroir
This vintage is made from the grapes of selected vineyards, namely our very oldest only, characterised by low yields. They are situated on the argillocalcareous terraces of the Lirac appellation.
Vinification
The grapes from those vineyards are sorted on reception at the winery. The must is left to macerate for more than five weeks. Then Terra Ancestra is matured for twelve months in new barrels of oak from the Vosges. So as to fully preserve its power, this vintage undergoes no filtering, even on bottling.
Dégustation :
Colour: strong purple red.
Nose: this wine’s nose blends fragrances of Bourbon vanilla and mocha, with touches of red fruits. On swirling, the barrel’s toasty aromas are replaced by fresh little red fruits (black currant, raspberry).
Palate: the initial feel is impressive. The concentration and the strength and power of this wine are striking. But the tannins remain silky and feature great refinement. The finish is long and harmonious..
Accords mets/vins :
Classic: cut of beef in pepper or wine sauce, fish stew.
Original: chocolate dessert. Serving temperature: 17°C.
